Polymarket is the largest prediction-market venue by historical volume, with a category-defining position in political and cultural event markets. It runs an off-chain order book with on-chain settlement in USDC on Polygon, giving users self-custody and near-instant settlement at the cost of significant regulatory ambiguity in the US. After a 2022 CFTC settlement that required geofencing US users, Polymarket launched a US-facing affiliate in 2025 under a CFTC-registered structure.
